Yoga Instruction

The Sankhya philosophy assigns three functions to the mental body –
1. the mind (mana), 2. the intelligence (buddhi), and 3. the false knowledge or false ego mithya jnana); Vedanta includes a fourth component, conditioned consciousness (chitta). Yoga compares the mind and the conditioned consciousness with a lake, creating calmness and serenity; however, this basic tranquility is obscured by surface waves, disturbed through sense perceptions (pramana) and when our memory (smriti) gets triggered off.

Triangle

The fundamental dogma of Yoga philosophy is that nothing exists beyond the mind and its consciousness, which is the only ultimate reality. One can achieve self-realization through regular practice of certain yogic meditative processes.

Gary's yoga philosophy is best understood as a creation, a fellowship within, with the body, mind, spirit and emotions. The emphasis is balance within all aspects of life, a bridge to create acceptance of life no matter where one is. Breath work is an important integral of the whole process. As we know allowing the lungs to expand and retract fills the entire being with great source of nourishment. His all-encompassing philosophy, one of acceptance, allows each student to be where s/he needs to be within each posture/pose. Part of the emphasis is allowing one to stretch the fabric of the body, its structure, muscles, fascia system, so one may stay flexible, firm, resilient and healthy, gaining length and strength. Gary seeks to create an environment of peace, harmony, acceptance and flexibility to meet individual needs.

Down Dog
Anyone who practices can obtain success in yoga but not one who is lazy. Constant practice alone is the secret of success.

~ Hatha Yoga Pradipika

The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.

~ B.K.S Iyengar

Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked.

~ The yoga sutras of Patanjali

When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.
